Precipitación
Pluviómetros y sensores de precipitación para medición de lluvia, nieve y granizo. Para redes meteorológicas, hidrología e infraestructura de manejo de aguas.
Precipitation is one of the hardest weather variables to measure well: wind, evaporation, and the type of hydrometeor — rain, snow, or hail — all affect how much each instrument actually catches. Reliable measurement therefore combines the right gauge with correct installation, siting, and maintenance.
Intensity, duration, and accumulation data feed synoptic weather networks, hydrological warning systems, and the daily operation of airports, roads, and water-management infrastructure.
Typical application areas
- Synoptic and climatological weather networks
- Hydrology and flood early warning
- Urban water management and drainage infrastructure
- Road weather and winter maintenance
- Airports and civil aviation
- Agroclimatic networks and agriculture
- Ports and the maritime industry
- Automatic weather stations at remote, unattended sites
What makes Vaisala's RAINCAP® technology unique
The RAINCAP® sensor measures precipitation acoustically: each drop hits a stainless-steel surface at terminal velocity, and a piezoelectric detector converts that signal into an individual measurement — larger drops produce a larger signal. The result is drop-by-drop measurement with no tipping buckets, no funnels to clog, and no moving parts.
- Virtually maintenance-free — no moving parts or mechanisms that clog
- Real-time intensity, duration, and accumulation data
- Distinguishes rain from hail and reports both separately
- Suitable for remote sites and unattended stations
- Immediate measurement of every drop, with no collection delay
- Integrated into compact multi-parameter weather transmitters
Vaisala's precipitation offering is not limited to a single measurement principle: it spans traditional rain gauges with heating options, optical forward-scatter present-weather detection, and — most recently — radar-based measurement with PRECICAP® technology, the first maintenance-free radar precipitation sensor. Choosing the right principle depends on the application, the site's climate, and the maintenance regime available.
