RM60

PRECICAP® maintenance-free radar precipitation sensor

RM60

The first maintenance-free radar precipitation sensor: it measures individual hydrometeors with 61 GHz Doppler radar and reports intensity, accumulation, precipitation type, drop size distribution, and reflectivity factor. No moving parts, no heating, and no containers to empty, with autocalibration during precipitation — suitable for remote, battery- or solar-powered sites.

Features

Key features

  • Full operating life without scheduled maintenance — no moving parts, containers, or openings that clog
  • Narrow-beam geometry insensitive to wind, with no fencing or wind shields required
  • Autocalibration based on the physical properties of raindrops during precipitation
  • Inherently free of classic catching errors: splashing, wetting, and evaporation losses
  • Reports drop size distribution (22 classes) and reflectivity factor (dBZ)
  • Low power draw without heating, suitable for solar- or battery-powered off-grid systems

Applications

Typical applications

  • Meteorological and hydrological networks
  • Inflow forecasting for hydropower and flood monitoring
  • Weather-responsive alerting and automation systems
  • Remote, unattended sites on solar or battery power
  • Road and rail safety
