Relative humidity expresses how much water vapor the air holds relative to the maximum it can retain at that temperature. When a process needs to control the condensation point rather than an ambient percentage — in industrial drying, compressed air or gas lines — the relevant variable becomes dew point instead. Both coexist in applications as different as pharmaceutical cleanrooms, data centers and food warehouses.

What makes Vaisala's HUMICAP® technology unique
Vaisala measures relative humidity with HUMICAP®, a capacitive thin-film polymer sensor: a polymer layer between two electrodes that absorbs and releases water vapor according to ambient humidity, changing its dielectric properties and, with them, the capacitance that the probe's electronics convert into a humidity reading. The upper electrode is a corrosion-resistant conductive material that protects the active layer from dust, dirt and conductive particles.
