CL51

High-range ceilometer for cirrus clouds up to 13 km

CL51

A high-range ceilometer designed to measure cirrus clouds up to 13 km without missing the low and middle layers, with backscatter profiling up to 15 km. The same second-generation single-lens optics as the CL31, with fully automatic 24/7 operation in all weather conditions.

Features

Key features

  • High-altitude cirrus cloud detection without sacrificing the low and middle layers
  • 2nd-generation single-lens optics: measurement from virtually zero height
  • Reports vertical visibility when the cloud base is obscured by precipitation or fog
  • Full-range backscatter profile for boundary layer analysis
  • Tiltable shield with blower and heater, and optical filters for solar protection
  • Periodic maintenance limited to window cleaning

Applications

Typical applications

  • Synoptic weather networks and high-cloud profiling
  • Airports and civil aviation
  • Atmospheric and climatological research
  • Boundary layer and air quality analysis (with BL-View software)
  • Unattended automatic weather stations
